Overbudget? Get Help.
A budget is like a money diet. Old habits can die hard. Just because you bust your budget today, doesn't mean you can't start it again tomorrow. If you go overbudget this week, next week commit to staying under budget!

- Make a needs vs. wants list. Carry it with you!
- Use the envelope method to control your spending. Decide what you want to spend, then put that amount in an envelope for the month. Use only the money in the envelope - that's all you're allowed to spend until the next month.
- Take only the amount of money you can spend for the day with you.
- Leave your debit and credit cards at home in a safe place - without easy access to the cards, you can curb any impulse purchases.
- Keep track of your expenses weekly, so you can stay on top of where you are.
- Carry your budget and goals with you. If you are tempted to spend or go overbudget, pull out your goals and remind yourself why you are controlling your spending.
- Don't buy on impulse. Give yourself a day to think about the purchase before you buy.
