The booklet Funding Education Beyond High School: The Guide to Federal Student Aid is a comprehensive resource on student financial aid from the U.S. Department of Education. Grants, loans, and work-study are the three major forms of aid available through the Department's Federal Student Aid office.
Federal financial aid does not continue from year to year. Each year, you need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). File online by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Department of Education also offers a booklet Completing the FAFSA that helps walk you through the process of filling out the form.
The Financial Fitness program, in partnership with DePaul's Office of Financial Aid, periodically offers the workshop Making Sense of Financial Aid. It offers you the chance to learn about loan types, terms and what it will take to repay your loans. Strategies for finding grants and scholarships are also covered. Check out the workshop schedule to see if it's offered this quarter.
